Many people dream of having a kitchen remodel done. Unfortunately, they really don’t have any idea of what it involves, what they need to watch for throughout the process, or how much time the entire project will take. This is why it’s important to take some time to review the entire process before diving in head first. Doing so will allow you to know what should be done each day and what materials you need to have on hand before you get started so you can finish your project on time.

Day 1: Demo and Preparation

The first thing you’ll want to do is prepare your work space. Make sure you cover the entry and exit floors with either Ramboard or Masonite. You’ll also want to use some plastic to contain any dust or debris you may have throughout this project.

Once you’re all set up, you should start removing all your appliances, cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and any drywall you deem “unnecessary.” Make sure you also cap your water lines and electrical wires.

It’s important to also clean everything up so you can prepare for your build back. This means you should haul away any debris.

Day 2: Framing and Repairs

Now you start getting into the real work of your kitchen remodel: It’s time to frame your walls. Make sure you add support to the wall where your cabinets, microwave and stove’s hood will be located. You should also fix any other part of your wall that’s currently in disrepair.

Day 3 and 4: Relocating and Roughing in new Items

These are big days since you’ll relocate and rough in your:

Sink and garbage disposal

Refrigerator with its ice maker

Dishwasher

Range and its hood

Microwave

Lighting

HVAC and its exhaust

Day 5, 6, and 7: Hanging Drywall and Painting Walls

Now you can patch and repair your drywall and prepare for the painting part of your kitchen remodel.

Days 8 – 11: Installing Cabinets

If you’re building your own cabinets, now is the time to do so. Otherwise you should install those you’ve bought.

Days 12 – 16: Installing Countertops

Make sure that the cabinet, painting, and fixtures are all installed. Once done you can move on to your countertops and sinks. Don’t forget to drill holes for your faucets.

Days 17 – 18: Adding Trim

You’ll want to add trim around all your electrical outlets and switches, as well as around your plumbing fixtures.

Conclusion

You can expect your kitchen remodel to take anywhere from two to three weeks from start to finish. Having made your spec and material decisions before you get started will help shorten this process somewhat. However, it’s important that you complete each of these tasks in order so that you have high-quality results with very few mistakes being made along the way. Don’t try to overlook things like repairing and relocating framing, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical items. Of course, all of this can make you feel as though you’re in over your head. Fortunately, Hybrid Construction LLC has lots of experience helping with these projects. You can count on them to help you too.
